Hansen’s

Today we’re delving into the world of canned root beer. Starting with Hansen’s. Generally speaking, I prefer root beer in a bottle. I think my aversion has something to do with how canned root beer is presented and sold. Canned drinks are generally sold together with soda pop, which means root beer is represented as nothing more than another flavor, next to cola or lemon lime. But root beer is its own genre of drink. Dang! That’s Good Butterscotch

I believe this is the 25th root beer reviewed on this blog, and on this special occasion, I grabbed a bottle of Dang! That’s Good Butterscotch root beer. I saw it, and honestly I couldn’t say no. It’s just too strange. I don’t expect that this brew will be the best I’ve ever had. I do expect that this will be a weird, but very interesting treat. I’m not sure why the name and tagline duo puts me on edge. I don’t understand why a root beer drink needs to identify itself as a “Real Brew” based on tradition and quality. Isn’t that a given? Is that supposed to be the convincer? The other day I was wondering why so many fantastical mixtures exist for alcohol drinkers, but for teetotalers we’re stuck with syrupy sweet or pre-pending the virgin moniker. I think part…

Towne Club

Enter Towne Club. Now, you may have read about this brand before when we talked about Frostie, and like Faygo, it’s a Michigan favorite. It might be the most underground Michigan favorite, too. I can’t speak for everyone, but Towne Club is notorious around here for being an affordable alternative to most fruity colas. They’re a direct competitor to Faygo and store brands, and have even taken a run at energy drinks. Hopefully the root beer is as good, or better, than the other Michigan brands. Made With Pure Cane Sugar, That’s Pure Michigan The bottle is huge. We’re talking…
